Individual wind turbine capacity has increased from 55 kW in the mid-1980s to 2,000 kW today. India already manufactures wind electric generators up to 1,650 kW. To harness the projected potential, new technologies with higher capacities, such as wind power systems greater than 1–2 MW, wind machines for low-wind regimes, and better designs for rotor blades, gear boxes, and control systems, are needed.
