India is the third-largest producer of tobacco in the world after China and Brazil. It is also the second-largest exporter of Flue Cured Virginia (FCV), a neutral-flavored variety that is used in most cigarette blend, with exports to nearly 100 countries. Belgium is the largest market for Indian FCV tobacco, followed by Russia and Korea. In 2008-09, India’s earnings from tobacco exports surged by 47 percent.
