The tea industry has had a long history in India. In 1834, Lord William Bentick (1774-1839) submitted a memorandum to the East India Company's Council of Directors regarding the potential for establishing a tea industry in India. In 1838, tea from India was first exported from state of Assm to the United Kingdom.
