The Indian textile and apparel industry is one of the largest in the world with an enormous raw material and manufacturing base. The industry accounts for a a phenomenal 14 percent of total industrial production and nearly 15 percent of product/commodity exports. Exports constitute almost 39 percent of the textiles and apparel industry.
The main market for Indian textile and apparel exports are the United States, the European Union, parts of Asia and the Middle East. Furthermore, apparel exports grew 8 percent of India’s total exports in 2007-2008.
