  • Grover Vineyards, near Bangalore produces  La Reserve one of the most sought after wines in the country.
  • Sula Vineyards, established 1996 outside Nashik, produces the brand, most often on wine lists.
  • Indus Wines near Nashik produces Sauvignon Blanc and other wines.
  • Chateau Indage, near Pune is the biggest winery in the country and produces sparkling wine.
  • Chateau d’Ori’s red wines offer lush fruity flavors.

Foreign wine companies in India include

  • E&J Gallo (US), has a joint venture with an Indian company to distribute the Gallo brand of wines in India.
  • Moet Hennessy and Vuove Cliquot, have been present in India since the 1990s.
  • Diageo sells Nilaya wines in India
  • Seagram, now renamed Pernod Ricard India, has set up a winery at Nashik to produce Nine Hills

India’s homegrown wine industry has taken notice of their emerging wine drinking population Because of all of the international travel and satellite TV, the Indian public has started to pay attention to the variety of wines that are out there. Duties on imported wine can be 250% of the wine’s market value. This is a strong motivator to develop the wine industry in India. Overall Sales of wine, beer, and liquor are growing at a rate of 30% a year.
