1)      Most countries in the world celebrate Labor Day on May 1st. What worker action in America in 1886 resulted in May 1 becoming Labor Day for the rest of the planet?

 On May 1, 1886, Chicago unionists, reformers and ordinary workers combined to make the city the center of the national movement for an eight-hour workday.  Read their incredible story.

2)      Francis Scott Key wrote the Star-Spangled Banner while a prisoner on a British ship, HMS Minden. Where was the ship manufactured?

 When Islam rose to dominance in Persia (now Iran), members of the legacy Zoroastrian religion fled and many settled in western India.  A maritime family came to be known as the Wadias and their descendants built and demolished ships in Surat and Bombay. For the first time ever, the Royal Navy contracted with Jamshedji Bomanji Wadia to build a 74-gun warship at the Duncan Docks, now part of Mumbai.  Named after a German town, the ship saw action in the war of 1812. Key wrote his now famous poem as he watched the "rockets' red glare" in Chesapeake Bay.

 

3)      Every year foreign students from Asia contribute $6.7 billion to the US economy and account for 51% of all foreign students in the USA. Which congressional district has the largest number of students from overseas and what famous university is based there?
