Nagaland is the 16th state Of India. The state capital is Kohima. It has a population of 1,988,636, with an area of 6,401 square miles, making it the smallest state in India. It borders the state of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and the country of Myanmar.
Economy
Agriculture is the most important economic activity in Nagaland, about 70% of the population depends on it. Principal crops include rice, corn, millets, pulses, tobacco, oilseeds, sugarcane, and potatoes. Fruits like banana, orange, passion fruit, pears, and jackfruit are grown. Vegetables like ginger, chili, cabbage, garlic, are also grown. Other economy boosters are Forestry, Insurance, Real estate and Tourism. Cottage industries such as weaving, woodwork, and pottery are also an important source of revenue.
Tourism
Since relaxing the Restricted Area Permit, tourism has flourished in Nagaland. There are many festivals in Nagaland. The Hornbill festival occurs annually, it is an event where all the tribes in Nagaland come together and display and sell their traditional items. Other festivals that occur are the Sekrenyi, Moatsu, Tokhu Emong and Tuluni. In regards to transportation, the city of Dimapur is the only area in the state where there is air and train transportation.
