Manipur is a state in northeastern India, with the city of Imphal as its capital. Manipur is bordered by the Indian states of Nagaland to the north, Mizoram to the south and Assam to the west; it also borders the country of Myanmar to the east. It covers an area of 22,347 sq. km with a total population of 2,166,788.

Economy

Agriculture is an important part of the economy about 70% of the state’s population depends on it.  Although cereals such as rice and maize are integral parts of their agricultural production,  the state is well known for its fruit production, producing fruits such as; pineapple, orange, banana ,peach , plum, and pears.  The cottage industry, more specifically the handloom industry, is the second largest industry in Manipur. The Food Processing Industry is also another popular industry in Manipur, so popular that the government even set up a Food Processing Training Center and a Food Processing Training Hall at Impal. Iron, Steel, and cement are also produced from the state.

Transportation

Manipuri has three National Highways; the Nh- 39, NH-53 and NH-150. The National highway connects all the districts in Manipuri. Manipuri’s aiport the Impal Airport is the second largest airport in the North Eastern Region of India. Impal Airport is connected to Aizwal, Guwahati, Silchar, New Delhi, and Kolkata.
